“Not a good night, all around”

The morning shuttle driver was 12 minutes late when driving me to the airport for my departure; I just made my flight. Upon returning to Vancouver, I called the hotel to confirm the shuttle schedule and was informed that there was NO shuttle driver on at all that day/night. I asked the desk clerk how we were to get to our room. He said he didn't realize there was no driver and would call his supervisor for instruction. I called back and he said his hotel would cover the cost of our taxi from the airport. He apologized for the oversight. When we arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk paid the taxi fare for us and to compensate, he had bumped us up to a higher floor to help alleviate some of the street noise likely to be heard during the night. I thanked him and up we went. The rooms are in serious need of updating; the thermostat is an out-dated dial version and when we tried to turn the dial to add some heat to the chilly room, 2 parts of the thermostat turned - rather than just 1. That made the temperature of the room almost impossible to regulate. We figured we'd order pizza into our room and attempted to access the free wi-fi. There was no signal. I called down and asked if there was an access code for the wi-fi, only to be told that there was no internet connection at all because their router was down. I felt sorry for that poor desk clerk, he did all he could with the issues that all seemed to affect our 1-night stay. He mentioned to me that he would also suggest to his supervisor that we should be granted some sort of monetary rebate off the pre-paid price of our room. A month later, I have not heard/received anything from Super 8 in this regard.
