“Honesty is the best policy - no matter what!”

  , West Kelowna
I recently stayed at this Super 8. I booked a month in advance and spoke with the front desk. I asked if their facility was Wheelchair accessible and that I would be travelling with 2 and possibly 3 people in wheelchairs. When I looked online at the rooms they all had 2 beds. I also informed the person that there would be two per room as there would be a total of 6 of us, we are a Paranordic Team racing that weekend. I was assured no problem. I explained how the last time, in Kamloops, we were told yes but in the end the bathroom door had to be taken off in order for the wheelchair to get into the bathroom and therefore no privacy for the two sharing. I go in to look at the room to find only one bed. The manager says we can give you a cot. I explain that this is not comfortable for someone who is Paraplegic and racing every day. He than acted as if he did not know that there would be two sharing. I replied that I was the one who made the reservation and that I was very clear about what I needed; I knew that there would be two people in a wheelchair sharing the accessible room so why would I not tell the staff person this? He said that they had another room available and would give it to us at half price. We really did not have much choice after travelling all day so we did take this. After bringing in our luggage they then tell us "oh by the way, breakfast is served on the second floor and there is no elevator". Wow, really wheelchair accessible. The first morning we brought down their breakfast but of course everything was cold by the time we got it down stairs and down the hall to them. The second morning a nice staff person waited on them directly. So although they did try to accommodate us, it cost us more money as we had to take an extra room for 2 nights. This is a team that had 5 people with disabilities where stairs were a challenge or impossible and telling us the truth up front is the least they could have done. We are a poor team as the club is non-profit and run by volunteers and fundraising. Many on the team are on a disability pensions which is minimal so I think they should have actually donated the room but that did not happen. It will be the last time I use Super 8 just on principle. The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were truly wheelchair accessible. Try a little honesty if you want repeat happy customers in the future!
