“Beware the carpet”

  , Corona
We stayed Friday night through Monday morning and the price was right. It was also just a mile from where we would be going to and from throughout the weekend. I wasn't looking for a 5 star hotel but there were a couple things about this place that were pretty shocking but not in a good way. The worst thing was the carpet. We'd been on the road almost 8 hours before we got to Sacramento so I kicked off my shoes as soon as we got to the room. I noticed a spot that felt damp and I thought, "That's weird, someone must have had a spill before they checked out." We showered and went to bed and in the morning I was surprised to find the carpet still damp but now it felt like all of the carpet was slightly damp and sticky/grimy. To my horror, when I looked at the soles of my feet, they were BLACK! So gross! I jumped in the shower to wash my feet and kept my shoes on the rest of the weekend. Another thing that was less important but still raised my eyebrows - the pillows. They were frumpy little things, the size of an average throw pillow. I'd never seen a pillow like this in a hotel before. The hallways reeked of cigarette smoke, it was pretty strong like a casino but on a positive note, our non-smoking room actually didn't smell like smoke. We were always too busy to get breakfast from the lobby but it smelled good - toasted beagles or freshly made waffles. And one other thing, we had only one room key and it needed to be reactivated 2 times while we were there. I know it couldn't have been anything I did because I never put it near anything that could demagnetize it.
