“Cold Check-in / Disturbed Check-out”

I recently visited family in Yreka, CA, and stayed at the Super 8. My experience was far from perfect. I reserved a room in advance. I called the Super 8 ahead, out of consideration, regarding a late check in. I was told no problem, we have a room for you. My 4 1/2 yr old son and I were running late and very tired. Upon our arrival we were given a room key that did not work. With my arms full of baggage, and bedding due to being 8 months pregnant, I was given another room key and assigned a new room. With luggage, bedding and 4 1/2 year old in tote, again, the second room key did not work. I called the front desk from my cell phone notifying her of the problem. She, too, tried the key I was given and it did not work. My son and I sat in the cold waiting for the maintenance man to take apart the door handle and fix the problem. That took about 1 hour from check in till the maintenance man left. I asked to be compensated a night (I was staying 4 in total) for the major inconvenience. The manager did not respond until the 2 days later and denied my request. Upon check out, I was accused of smoking in a non-smoking room. This was upsetting as they charge $75 for this accusation. Besides all the hassle and accusations, the beds were comfortable, the shower was hot and the room clean. I would advise spending a little more money at another hotel in town and avoiding Super 8 all together. They also entered my room when I had a Do Not Clean sign up.
