“You get what you pay for...”

  , Pacific Palisades
...if you know what I mean. There was an anesthesiologists convention in Chicago so I was forced to stay out of the city or pay the Las Vegas "Dynamic Pricing" formula of $450 and up per night at any of the hotels downtown that still had rooms available. Being a Wyndham member I rolled the dice and decided to spend the weekend at the Super 8 in Morton Grove. My plane was late getting in due to fog which meant a 2:00 AM check in. I was beat. They put me on the first floor. I came in through the back. When I opened the door to the hallway it reeked of cigarette smoke. I opened the door to my "No Smoking" room and the fact that it didn't smell like smoke it had sort of a perfume quality to it. I was so tired my head hit the pillow and got up the next morning smelling like smoke. I asked to change rooms the following morning. They put me up on the 2nd floor right above the room I had previously slept in. It was OK although there was still a hint of ashtray in the air. I only had two nights to go.The "Free" continental breakfast was dismal. I never indulged. Everything about this hotel was just...only enough to get by. They're just coasting. Don't try to plus it. Hey I get keeping the overhead low but c'mon! You'll never get repeat business using this model. The icing on the cake was going out on that Sunday at 10:00 AM and coming back at 5:00 PM to find that my room had not been cleaned. Now this was not because they cleaning staff were incompetent, it was because the hotel was too cheap to have more than one person cleaning rooms for the entire hotel. Pitiful.Look, if you need a cheap hotel, (I paid $54 per night) don't mind cigarette smoke, spartan surroundings, (no ironing board) in-room bad coffee and a "just get by mentality then this is the hotel for you!
