I am from the Chicago area and Super 8's in this area are generally very nice. I never had a second thought that the quality might be different in another locale as I figured the standards set by the company would be upheld no matter where you traveled. I found this was not true. The management was very accommodating, however, as I ended up having to cancel my first night's stay due to car trouble. I did arrive on 10/13 as planned for a wedding. Upon entering the room, I first noticed that it smelled very strongly of new paint. I appreciated that the room had been newly painted, but it took a lot of ventilation and airing out, leaving the door open (which I felt was a safety issue) to get the smell to reduce to a tolerable level. I was afraid I might not be able to stay in the room due to the smell, but it got better as the air circulated. The room appeared clean otherwise. Once I got in bed for the night, however, I noticed a peculiar smell on one of my bed pillows and the bedspread. I realized pretty quickly that they smelled like urine. I am a nurse and know that smell well. It was very late and I was very tired after returning from a wedding reception, so I just removed the articles from my bed and finished out the night. I did tell the manager about this when I checked out in the morning. I have heard horror stories about these types of problems when traveling, but this is the first time I have had something like this happened during a motel stay. The location was noisy with a lot of talking and slamming of car doors late into the night, I suppose due to the restaurant/ bar right next door. The breakfast was pretty basic and sparse. The upholstered furniture in the lobby area was worn and somewhat dirty. The manager was the best part of the stay; he was accommodating and nice and apologized for the dirty bedding, but there was no offer of any reduction in cost or any other compensation for the problem. This stay was a surprising disappointment to me. I have decided that when I travel to a more rural area, that Super 8 will not be the choice I make next time. Thank you for providing a method for feedback regarding my stay.
