“Review of Super 8”

To begin with, I had requested an e-mail confirmation be sent to me at the time I had made the reservation and was assured that one was being sent (Wed. 10-3-2012), As of t he time we left home on Thurs. AM there was no such e-mail in my inbox. Secondarily, I confirmed TWICE that the room rate was $55+/night and on arrival, I was informed that the rate was $65+/night. When I questioned it, I was told flatly that that was the rate. Period. Upon check-in, I presented my ID and my credit card and at the end of the registration process, both were returned to me. The following day I was informed that my credit card was declined. I went to the Front Desk and the attendant actually swiped it and, of course, it went right through. No problem. I asked what the problem was and was told that "sometimes when we just enter it by hand it declines, but when the card is swiped it nearly always goes right through." Why didn't the woman swipe it in the first place? That was annoying and rather embarrasing/frustrating. On Saturday evening, inasmuch as it was a very late night for us, I requested the Night Clerk leave a notation for the morning person that we were requesting a late check out for 1:00 PM. Apparently that information was never communicated and she rang our room at 12:30 - as we were attempting to get our things out of the room - and inquired if she was to charge us for another day! That was completely unnecessary! The Front Desk person also had no idea of the facility where our meetings were taking place, nor of a major local business immediately adjacent to the building, which we found somewhat irritating. In summary, this was a less than optimal experience and we've stayed at Super 8's all over the country. We did not partake of the Complimentary Breakfast offering as we had breakfast meetings each morning, so no comment is available regarding this service. Overall, the facility is old and is definitely in need of updating/upgrading. We are older and prefer 1st floor rooms; none was available to us; and, having to climb the stairs (as no elevator was available) was somewhat of a challenge.
