“Worst stay ever”

We checked in on Friday, May 31, 2013 and checked out Monday, June 03, 2013. Our room was VERY dirty, especially the bathroom. There was an awful oder that smelled like mold. We walked to the Walmart because we arrived on the MegaBus and had no car, and bought cleaning supplies to clean the bathroom and air fresheners. We also saw & killed 4 baby roaches that were in the tub, on the walls and even the ceiling - it was awful. The very next morning, we privately told the clerk about the situation, and he was very helpful - he said he would get us another room and "try" to comp us 1 free night - we left for the day and upon returning that night, they had gotten us another non-smoking room right across the hall. The bathroom was cleaner - and even though the room had a smell it wasn't as bad as the first room. There was something red splattered on the walls that could have been blood or juice, so we sprayed and wiped it, the remote didn't work to the TV the clerk (a different one) gave us a new one because the old one's battery corroded, but the new one didn't work so she cleaned the old one, replaced the battery and it worked fine. The beds were awful - when you lie down, you sink in the middle as if on a waterbed; we slept on the top sheet. We only saw 1 roach bug in that room. Breakfast was decent and the staff was great, but the rooms was terrible. Upon checking out, we didn't get 1 room free, instead the clerk said that the manager claims that he was giving us a 25% dicsount, which he didn't it was more like 18-20%, even the clerk said he didn't see the 25% discount. The clerks were GREAT - very friendly. The manager's wife was behind the counter talking to clerk, but not one time did she come to talk to us, we never saw the manager anymore after we checked in on Friday. Needless to say, we will NEVER stay at that hotel again which is sad because the location of the hotel is Awsome. We could catch the bus to anywhere, and we did. I know that it is privately owned, but it was awful. From the time you walk into the front door to check in, there was this awful smell that lingered in the halls. We saw the cleaning staff, not sure what all they did since it took them all day each day to clean or whatever they did, a couple of rooms. The room next to ours had dogs, YES DOGS, don't know how many, but we heard at least 2.When we got home, we emptied our suitcases out side and shook them, I hope no bugs got in them and I hope the hotel didn't have bed bugs - not that I saw anyway. I know you get what you pay for, but at $62 per night/$200 total, we really should have gotten better. They really need to invest in at least 2 carpet cleaners (like the kind you can get from Walmart or Kmart) one for upstairs and one for downstairs, and CLEAN their carpets. The filter in the AC was nasty, I took it out to look at it because it smelled so bad and it was awful. Our entire experience staying at the hotel with regards to the room was a disgrace.
