“Nearly perfect except for smoking floor”

  , Helotes
Though we had made the nonsmoking room reservation well in advance and arrived early in the evening, they gave us a nonsmoking room on the EXTREMELY smoke-stinky third floor (just to walk in that hall a few seconds made our clothes reek). We had to beg and beg to be put on a nonsmoking floor. They finally caved and put us on second floor, which the halls and room there not only smelled great, the room had a flat screen as opposed to the old box TV that was in the smoke-floor room we were first given, so we were doubly happy to have made the switch. (That third floor is so stinky it even makes the elevator smell. Can't understand why such a nice, super clean hotel wants to ruin a whole floor by allowing smoking. We really love smoke-free hotels.)We later wondered if we got the bad room at first because we had a discount rate. Making the rez online, we had chosen either AARP or military, can't remember, but we were given some corporate rate, don't know how that happened, but rate was really good, $62.Aside from the smoke floor issue and the fact the surrounding neighborhood is kind of scary looking, and the sight of an apparently permanently disabled hot tub next to the very nice indoor pool, the room was not only really large, squeaky clean, very comfy and very quiet, everything in it looked brand new. Bathroom was amazing, unusually big and well-designed tub, big nice vanity area with sink outside the bathroom (great setup). But small, thin towels, which we were only given three, feel four should be standard.Room had nice fridge and microwave. AC worked great. Wifi connection not good but we didn't care, we were out of the room a lot. The family owners were extremely cordial and courteous, especially the Mr. and Mrs., who were not the ones at the desk when we checked in. Breakfast was very good, no meat but really good eggs, gravy and biscuits and most of the other usual stuff: waffles, danishes, fruit, juice (OJ was like Sunny D but tasty); no bagels/cream cheese though, which sometimes we enjoy. Lots of great free parking. We heartily recommend staying here but only on nonsmoking floors and not if you are looking to use a hot tub at the pool area or need to work on wifi.
