“Left unimpressed”

After seeing the TV ads, and with locations popping up all over, decided to try out Super 8 on our recent Freeport trip. Price was good - only $80 a night - but the experience didn't live up to the promise. Checking in was fast and easy and desk clerk Chris was efficient and nice. Then we went to the room where we found absolutely o external security. Anyone could walk in as there wasn't a lock on the entry door. The room was clean however - no complaint here. The television was an old CRT style with a grainy picture. The side window didn't latch because of a poor fit allowing ample traffic noise from the I95 behind and Rte 1 in front. As well, because the latch didn't work, window security was provided by a 1/4 inch dowel in the inside bottom frame. The bed was comfortable but there were only two lights in the room - one floor lamp, the other on the desk - nothing over the bed should one wish to read. Next morning, after a luke-warm (at best) shower, we went to take advantage of the hot breakfast which was make your own waffles - air waffles really because there was no real substance to the creation - just some flour, water and lots of baking soda. There was also cold cereal, coffee, tea and some kind of apple and orange juice concoction dispenser that involved mixing something with water in the machine. The orange juice additive was empty however, only water came out of the spout. While making said air waffle, the unit was beeping at me as I tried to figure out what to do. The charming young lady at the front desk, just outside the breakfast area, used her excellent customer service skills to yell in to me to turn the griddle. As that didn't happen fast enough, she started to come in however I managed to turn the press and stop the beeping, eliciting an eye-roll from Ms. Wonderful. My wife opted for a toasted English muffin only to discover mold on her first selection. The bananas, yogurt and fruit suddenly became very attractive. And maybe I'm a snob but plastic cutlery and Styrofoam plates and coffee cups just don't do it for me. We left, never to return.
