“It's Always Something”

I've stayed here a few times over the last few years and there always seems to be something that goes wrong. One time it was a poor TV signal to all channels, another time we got the wrong room (smoking instead of non-).This time around, it was a problem with the hot water. Unfortunately, we had to learn this the hard way. When I went to the front desk to find out what was going on, I was told that there are two boilers in the building and that one of them was out, consequently it takes a longer time for the hot water to reach the more distant parts of the building, "so if you let it run for a few minutes it should be OK." I told him that I did let it run for quite awhile before I finally gave up and got in anyway, taking what was essentially a room-temperature shower. (This was about 4PM, not exactly peak time for people in the building to be showering.) His response was little more than a shrug and a blank stare, although really, what other response could there have been at that point? In addition, I noted, we had a reservation for three people but the room was clearly set up for two, what with two bath towels, two hand towels, etc. I'll give him this: he brought up extra towels and shampoo pretty quickly, but my wife and daughter were soured on the idea of showering at all by then. The room that we were in had the usual appliances: coffee maker, microwave, fridge. The TV was an older tube model; based on some of the other reviews I surmise that they're converting the TVs piecemeal. Especially inasmuch as I note that at least one other review notes HD televisions displaying Low Def signals. Most of the smoking rooms appear to be on the first floor, so as other reviewers note, it's pretty much the first thing you encounter when you first enter the building. The room itself that we had (second floor) did not smell smoky, though. We did not take advantage of the breakfast that was available so I'm not able to comment on that.I'm at the point, now where every time I write off a problem as a short-term anomaly, there's bound to be something else wrong going on. There aren't a ton of options for lodging in that area, especially when SUNY New Paltz or Marist are doing a big event (e.g. parents' weekend, commencement--and don't think that all the hotels aren't jacking up the prices at those times), but I'm going to have to consider carefully whether I make this my lodging of choice.
