“smokey room with broken door”

  , Louisville
My family were on our way to a family Christmas gathering when we were forced to stop at this Super 8 due to a snow storm. The motel is situated at the top of a hill. Once we finally found a spot to park in the wet, slippery parking lot. We realized there was no way we could back out to find another place to stay. So we booked a room. Once we got to our room (218), we could not believe our eyes. It is about 30degrees outside and the room door was wide open to the elements. The door frame is clearly worn and warped so the door cannot be closed. The room smelled of old smoke despite the sign that says "no smoking". I went back downstairs to ask for a new room but the attendant told me that he would come up and "show me how to close that door". And he assured me there are no more rooms left so we cannot be switched to another room. We are so trapped!Once he pushed and jammed the door shut, our real ordeal began. The room temp stayed at about 40 degrees for a few hours despite us cranking up the heat. And did I mention the smell of tobacco? It permeated everything in the room. The comforters were gross and dingy...our clothes all smelled like smoke the next day...we were afraid of putting our stuff on the ground.Yes, we were thankful that we had a roof in that weather. But a roof is really all we got for $70 (with tax) that night.
