“Contradictions”

  , Winnipeg
Our experience at Super 8 with this stay is a mixed bag of contradictions. We were a group of 5 women and 1 baby and had wanted a larger room with 2 - beds and room for a cot. The family room at Super 8 was recommended. We called and were very pleased that it was available and at a very good price and so booked it. Alas - the next day we received a call from a very pleasant young women who advised that the room had been double booked by a new staff member and was not available to us. She offered to upgrade us to the jacuzzi room (sounds more luxurious than it actually was) and to give us a room with 2-queen beds in addition for the same price. It was not ideal as we had hoped to all be together but she seemed to genuinely want to correct the situation and it seemed an option we could make work so we accepted it. We arrived on Friday October 26th and she was working. She informed us that the room with the 2-queen beds had been double-booked (again!) and that we now had the Jacuzzi suite which had 1-king bed and a very very small room with 1-double bed and offered a cot to accomadate the 5th person. There was some tournament going on in the area and all the hotels were booked so with very little options available to us, we confirmed the cost and accepted the rooms. The rooms were clean, but there is a distinct odor throughout the hotel that I can't quite place and would not call pleasant. There is a breakfast included, but it is very limited and there are only 3 very small tables that each seat 3 to eat at. There is not much sound proofing and you can hear all from the hallway. At check out time, we went to pay the bill and it was $50.00 higher than the agreed upon amount. It seemed that the pleasant young women who had confirmed our reservation and then the price at time of check-in was also new and should not have given us this price. The young man was very firm that he would not waive on the price and it was only after much insisting and time that he agreed to call his manager who agreed to the original price. This final upset left a very negative impression and could have so easily been avoided by proper communication on the part of the staff. Whether it be a book where special notes can be written in or an option to add these kind of notes on the reservation page could avoid thiese situations. My recommendation for anyone booking here is to request all reservations and special considerations to be in writing.
